The Clemency of Titus is an opera seria and one of the last pieces worked on by the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The story opens with Vitellia, daughter of a deceased Roman Emperor, who plots the murder of the new ruler, Tito. When the new Emperor decides to take her as his Empress, she changes her mind, but not before she sends her friend Sesto, who is also in love with her, out to kill Tito. After a case of mistaken identity leaves all parties alive, Emperor Tito stuns the people of Rome with his extreme mercy.
