Terrence Blanchard is a jazz trumpeter, composer and bandleader from New Orleans who broke onto the scene in the 1980s, performing with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and then Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Though Blanchard has served as a hired gun for prominent jazz outfits, he has also struck out on his own and conducted his own players as a band leader. One of the leading living trumpeters who has performed with the jazz elite, Blanchard is known for his unique hard bop style, as well as his African-fusion approach.
