Join us on Friday, July 26, 10:00 am-12:00 pm for ‘Seasoned Vinegars and Table Flowers,” a summer workshop. Let’s use Sonoma Garden Park’s season’s bounty to spice up the pantry and decorate your home. The harvest gives ideal inspiration for delicious, healthy dishes, so we will follow nature’s lead and create seasonal condiments. In this workshop, we will collect summer’s bounty from the garden, and learn to tie aromatic herb bundles or a bouquet garni. Everyone will have opportunities to both follow recipes and invent your own concoction using various vinegars, fruit, spices and herbs. Flavored vinegars are perfect for a marinade or brine, and can make a salad special with sweet, mellow or complex flavors. In the second part of this workshop, you will learn the 6 elements of floral design and create a weekend-worthy table bouquet for your home. The six acres of garden bounty is ready to inspire your pallet and delight your senses! Please bring a couple of clean, empty jars (one with a tight fitting lid for the vinegar recipe) and one to use as a vase. We will have extra jars on hand. All other supplies will be provided. If you can, give yourself the time to enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden after the activities end. A hat, water bottle and shoes for garden paths are advised. Please register for this event. Registration will close 2 days before the workshop, on Wednesday, July 24 at 10:00 am.This workshop is led by Julia Megna. Julia has been an educator in Sonoma County since 1985 when she relocated here after studying at UC Santa Cruz. She is an education project manager with the Sonoma Ecology Center, leading gardening and craft events, field trips, and coordinating environmental education for Sonoma County schools. Julia is a local florist, integrating sustainability into a potentially detrimental trade at Florals & Decor by Julia. Follow her on Instagram @floral.decor.julia or access her website at 100acregreenery.com.There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax. Sonoma Garden Park was protected by Ag + Open Space in November of 2011 for recreation and preservation of its natural resources, and learning classroom environment for agriculture field trips for nearby elementary schools through Sonoma Ecology Center’s “Growing Discovery” program. The 6-acre property, hidden in eastern Sonoma, is an incredible public park and working garden site in Sonoma Valley, home of a wide array of habitats alongside sustainably designed systems for both agriculture use and landscaping purposes.Sign up for our emailing list to stay updated on future events: sonomaecologycenter.org/newsletters-sign-up.
