A tale of marriage and adultery, Betrayal is Harold Pinter's 1978 masterpiece. The story is told in reverse chronology over the course of nine years to show the progression of Emma's affair with her husband Robert's close friend, Jerry. Themes of passion, secrets and lies are prominent throughout the play, as every character betrays one another--in addition to betraying him or herself. The work won the Laurence Olivier Award for "Best New Play" in 1979 and has been produced in four countries and adapted as a screenplay for a 1983 film.
