Also known simply as Grand Funk, Grand Funk Railroad is a blues/hard rock project from Flint, MI that rose to fame in the 1970s. Formed in 1969, the band was almost immediately signed to Capitol Records after playing back-to-back performances at Atlanta Pop Festival and released its debut album On Time, later the same year. After ten more albums, including 1974's Shinin' On which featured the number one single "Loco-Motion," Grand Funk Railroad broke up from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1983 to 1986 after two relatively unsuccessful albums. The band's original trio of Mark Farner, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher reunited in the late 2000s to play a series of sold out shows, but the reunion was short lived as old issue resurfaced, causing Farner to leave the band for the last time. Grand Funk Railroad continues to perform its music with a new revamped line up.
