The Sagra dei Osei - "bird festival" in the local dialect - takes place in Sacile every year on the Sunday following the Ferragosto bank holiday. The festival is more than seven centuries old and until 1907 was called the Mercato di San Lorenzo. It is unusual in that it has remained unchanged since its conception: on Sunday morning hundreds of birds of all types are displayed along the town's streets and squares. The Sagra dei Osei should not be underrated – it is one of the few festivals of its kind in all of Europe.
