A complete rampart system surrounds the Old Town, known as the secret capital of Westphalia. From here there is a stunning view of green gardens. The massive Romanesque tower of the Church of St. Patroklus rises in the historical centre, also known as the Tower of Westphalia. The Wiesenkirche (St. Mary in the Meadows) from 1313 ranks among the most beautiful Late Gothic hall churches in Germany. The colourful history of Soest can be explored in one of the many museums, such as the Burghof Museum or the Osthofentor Museum.
