Emperor Wilhelm II frequently visited this little town on the sea to take in the healthy air. As a result Heringsdorf was promoted to one of the three so-called Imperial Spas on Usedom Island. The atmosphere is fittingly chic. The place still exudes a trace of this today, because the well-preserved villas in the style of the Gründerzeit (period of rapid industrial growth after unification in 1871) still attest to the grandeur of that past. The sandy, golden beaches and the pier with plenty of restaurants attracts tourists in droves, further cementing its reputation as a seaside paradise.
