TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
A landmark church with Modernist Gothic architecture, the Església de Sant Romà is the pride of Lloret de Mar. It was constructed in 1522 CE to replace the Church of Mare de Déu de Les Alegries and protect the town from Turkish and Algerian pirates. The only entry route to the building was via a draw bridge. This helped safeguard the citizens from the pirate attacks. Most of the interior of the church was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, save for a few panels at the altar. Regular church service is held on weekdays.
