Walnut Room

The Walnut Room at the Macy's on State Street has been considered an iconic restaurant since its opening in 1907. It has the distinction of being the first restaurant to open in a department store and this long-standing diner is renowned for its elegant ambiance replete with Russian wood panels and Austrian chandeliers. The wine bar features small bites and wines by the glass if you choose to forego a more formal, sit-down service. However, if you do have dinner, a must-try dish is Mrs. Hering's Chicken Pot Pie or the Oven-baked Meat Loaf, both are hearty and delicious, especially if you come in the winter.
