TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Perched atop a hill against the Tuscan backdrop, the church of Santa Margherita was originally a small structure that the Camaldolesi monks built in the 13th century. In 1258 when the town of Arezzo was under siege, this original church underwent significant damage, and was later salvaged by a Franciscan nun by the name of Margherita di Cortona. After Margherita's death, her body was relocated to a larger church that the Cortonese built with the help of Giovanni Pisano, where it remains till date.
