TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Overlooking the azure blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Santuario Di Santa Maria dell’Isola is nestled in the town of Tropea. Set atop an imposing rock, this church was used by Benedictine monks. This old church was severely damaged during the earthquakes that took place in the years 1783 and 1905. Visitors can get to the sanctuary by climbing up the flight of stairs that lead to the top of the rock. The Festival of Santa Maria dell’Isola is celebrated here every year in August.
