Actually the square is just an empty space. But it is nevertheless considered as one of the most beautiful sights in the city. Cobblestones cover the enormous area of the square which is bordered with Flemish houses of the 17th and 18th centuries. Once a week a large market is held here. Underneath the cobbles is a network of tunnels in which the inhabitants of the town concealed themselves during the Second World War.
