Chicago's Old Town was originally settled by the German-Catholic immigrants who moved to the area in the 1850s. Over the years, the neighborhood developed a close-knit character and unique charm that shines through in the form of a distinct architectural design and an eclectic lineup of annual cultural events. The highlight of the neighborhood's architectural heritage is St. Michael's Church, one of the only buildings to have survived the devastating fire of 1871. The rest of the neighborhood is an intriguing melange of workers' cottages and Victorian houses. The neighborhood is also the host and venue of the annual Old Town Art Fair, attracting visitors from across the city and state. Originally, the neighborhood was bounded by the former Ogden Avenue, Clark Street and North Avenue which formed a triangle, giving the neighborhood its name.
