Plaza de la Gavidia is a key landmark in the city of Seville. This black and white chequered plaza is surrounded by a canopy of trees and in the middle of the plaza, is the prestigious statue of Luis Daoiz, a military soldier who played a prominent role in the Spanish war of independence. For the history buffs, on the east side of the plaza is a charming 19th-century building that previously served as a headquarter of General Captaincy of the Second Military Region.
