A part of the Swiss Reduit defense system in World War II, Festung Fürigen also referred to as the Artilleriewerk Fürigen was constructed in 1942. A modern fortress museum, the site was used by the army until 1987 and was transformed into a repository that was one of Switzerland’s first of its kind.
