Located within the municipal limits of La Rioja, San Vicente de la Sonsierra is a village in Spain situated at the foot of the mountain ranges of Sierra de Cantabria. The village is sparsely populated and the locals are primarily into farming growing grapes, grains and fruits. The village is home to historic monuments, ruined castles and fortress. The main attraction being the 16th-century Gothic Parish Church of Santa María, a national monument. Another interesting attraction is the 11th century Romanesque Basilica of Santa María de la Piscina that was founded in the year 1088 by prince Ramiro. Besides exploring historic monuments, tourists can also tour some of the large wineries in and around the village. The village is also well known all over Spain for the traditional processions organized like the Vera Cruz Guild and the Picaos, these ancient traditions or procession have not been seen in the rest of Spain for centuries.
