What used to be The Durango Discovery Museum, after having to go through closure because of lack of funds, was re-opened as The Powerhouse - Science Center/MakerLab in 2011. Thanks to the crowdfunding and donations gathered by local community organizations, this museum was re-opened much to the delight of Colorado's science community. Housed in the former location of a power plant, this museum is one of the major attractions in the city. The concept at this museum revolves around power generation and supply. The visitors, through the many interactive exhibits here, will get to learn how power generation takes place and how it is supplied to different parts of a city. The Maker Lab at this museum organizes various classes for people of all ages where one can learn new skills or polish the already existing ones.
