Literally translating to 'North Horn', Nordhorn is a town in Lower Saxony known for its historically significance. Most prominent tourist attraction is the Kloster Frenswegen or the Frenswegen monastery which was in operation since the 15th Century and was discontinued in the 19th Century. The red shingled building now stands guard with its rich religious history for exploration. Not to forget, the Kornmuhle is also a place worthy of historical admiration, for it was a wheat mill established in the 13th Century. While the building still stands, it now holds cabaret performances during certain seasons of the year. For those who are interested in a little maritime history, the Schifffahrts-Museum is the place to be for one can learn all about whaling and seafaring artifacts used by Nordhorn folk in the past. Overall, it's a nice and cheerful town replete with tradition and interesting stories.
