All Saints' Church

All Saints' Church once stood on St. John's Street, the site now a garden where craft fairs are often held. Demolished in 1865 to allow the street to be widened, a new parish church was built opposite Jesus College. The church remains a remarkable monument to Victorian art. William Morris supervised stenciling of the walls and ceiling; and stained glass windows include works by Morris, Madox Brown and Burne-Jones. The church is no longer used for services but instead is maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. To visit, borrow the key from nearby shop Every Occasion at 84 King Street. Wheelchair users should note that access is difficult, as the entrance is via a narrow path to the back of the church.
