At the tip of Italy's heel, the waters of the Adriatic and the Ionian meet. Here you feel as though you are at the end of the world and stopped in time. The village is all white including the houses and churches. The most important is the sanctuary known as "de Finibus Terrae" which for every good Christian is the "gateway to Heaven." A cross commemorates the Jubilee pilgrimage of 1900 that is said to have been crossed by St. Peter. Even the Pope has been to visit it. Tourists are attracted by the glorious sea, the cliffs (here you can go bungee jumping if you like), and the transparent water; in fact, here you do not seem to be in Italy at all but some exotic island.
