This is one of the best preserved castles in Alsace and it is certainly the best known and the most charming just for its size (nearly 300m long) and its geographic position (perched at a height of 800m in the heart of the Orschwiller Forest). It was built in the 12th century by the Hohenstaufen family, then, after passing into the hands of brigand knights, was regained by the Habsbourgs in the 15th century. Today the castle has been restored and provides the scene for visits and varied and interesting medieval entertainments.
