Liverpool's Tate Gallery is part of the world-renowned family of stellar galleries such as the Tate Britain, Tate Modern in London and the lesser-known St Ives Tate. Situated at the Albert Dock, the gallery boasts of the city's largest contemporary art collection, with many temporary exhibitions aiming to challenge aspects of social or personal thought. The building itself is well planned and subtle enough to disappear behind the artwork on display, yet still provides a pleasant atmosphere in which to spend a contemplative afternoon. There is a well-stocked gift shop on the ground floor and the cafe provides excellent food.
