Warsaw Philharmonic sits on the same site as the original, which was completely destroyed in the war. The original, a K. Kozlowski design, was similar (but much more ornate) to the present structure. The current building was completed in 1956. The orchestra has several very fine discs to its credit, and travels internationally on a regular basis, receiving rave reviews for its uncompromising and original performances. Evelyn Glennie gave a startlingly impressive show here recently, and their version of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff is nothing less than awesome, complete with male and female choirs, as well as a children's choir. Tickets are still very cheap, and can be purchased up to ten days before a given performance date.
