This is one of the most important tourist destinations along the Cantabria coast. La Puebla Vieja (named an historic-artistic site since 1970) is medieval in origin. A wander around its streets or a visit to the Asunción church will take you back in time. The area of Ensanche is the commercial and administrative centre of the city. El Puntal is a large stretch of sand where two impressive beaches stand, Regatón and Salvé. The Batalla de las Flores, (Battle of the Flowers) is held on the last Friday in August, a fiesta with marked tourist interest. To get here: take the motorway to Bilbao for some 55 kilometres.
