The Whitworth was originally founded in 1898 and the University of Manchester took over responsibility for it in 1958. Within its pleasant, open-plan Scandinavian-style interior you will find collections of watercolors, textiles and wallpapers by internationally renowned British artists as well as contemporary and historic prints, drawings and paintings. In addition to these, there are sculptures to be found in a mezzanine court, and temporary exhibitions held throughout the year. If you fancy a coffee or a light meal, there is also an excellent cafe-bistro on site offering home-cooked food during the day.
