The auditorium is located on the site of an old sugar refinery which has been renovated. It is the most important design for public use in the old Eridania-Barilla, which was meant to increase the prestige of Parma as an international music center. It was designed by the architect Renzo Piano who planned the demolition of two factory sites to create a kind of visual telescope, with large windows that enclose the foyer and the music room. Next to the auditorium, meeting rooms and services will be built as well as the home of the Arturo Toscanini Foundation.
