STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway

For seven generations, men and women built locomotives in the Swindon Works, and the Great Western Railway's historical museum STEAM is located in a wonderfully restored building at the heart of this centerpiece of local industry. Inside, you'll learn about building and operating the railway, and visit the erecting, boiler, machine, and carriage shops. A fully functioning workshop restores and repairs locomotives and carriages, and the locomotive christened King George V is stationed at the platform just as it would have been in days gone by. Family activities feature during holiday periods. Disabled access is made easy with ramps and lifts.
