Funded by donations and contributions from the Bürgerparkverein (Citizen's Park Society), this massive park has been attracting citizens since 1866 with its forest, fields, meadows, lakes, bridges, avenues, trees and romantic footpaths. A game enclosure contains animals such as sheep, goats, ponies and birds. The park is particularly attractive in the summer months and if you want to discover it by boat, then you could hire a rowing boat for a couple of hours. The Marcusbrunnen is a particularly popular meeting place; horse and carriage trips start from here in the spring and summer. Games fans meet here on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a game of boules or chess; jazz lovers gather at the Waldbühne on Sunday mornings.
