Just south of Siena lies Orvieto, a medieval town equally enchanting and picturesque. The town has on its the marks of a changing era and a strong Christian holding from ancient times since the cathedrals and forts were built by the Pope. This little town serves as a getaway from the main town of Florence. It is a popular venue linked to the annual Umbria Jazz Winter Concerts and as the music floods the streets, so do the people from all over Italy. You can find great little villas for accommodation, as well as good Tuscan fare. It is also the prime white wine producing districts of Italy.
