Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg is a historic five-star hotel on the Bensberg Mountain and overlooks the distant Cologne Cathedral. Commissioned by Prince Jan Wellem in the early 1700s, the Baroque building was meant to be a Jagdschloss (royal hunting lodge), though due to the death of the prince it was never used for its intended purpose and instead was used in a variety of ways, including as hospital and a boarding school. This gorgeous building has regarded as one of the most beautiful palaces in the country and was converted into an upscale hotel in 1997.
