The Ye Olde Pepper Companie is the oldest candy company in the United States, with the first commercially-made candies produced in the country. Pick up a box of Salem Gibralters (a lemon or peppermint flavored candy with the texture of an after-dinner mint) or a Black Jack (a licorice-like strip of molasses), all produced using the original recipes from the 19th Century, cooked in copper kettles and sold in a store reminiscent of old-fashioned candy store. Also make sure you check out the glass jar of 200 year-old Gibralters on display. The Ye Olde Pepper Companie is a must see if coming to Salem.
