Named for the man who led Jayhawks basketball for 39 years, Dr. F.C. "Phog" Allen, the Allen Fieldhouse has been a home for Kansas athletics since it opened in 1955. The fieldhouse has gained prominence in college basketball by hosting many NCAA tournament games and by being labeled "the best place in America to watch college basketball." It can house 16,300 people at capacity, and the stands are often full to watch any number of sporting events held at Allen Fieldhouse. It is also used as a venue for speeches and commencement ceremonies during bad weather.
