12 South Street, Monument Square, Jamaica Plain, MA, United States, 02130
A Massachusetts and Boston Landmark, the Loring-Greenough House is a historic building in the Sumner Hill area of Jamaica Plain. Constructed in 1760, the house served as the home of British Commodore Joshua Loring. The house is historically significant, having served as a headquarters of the Colonial forces as well as a military hospital during the Battle of Bunker Hill. After the revolution, the home was owned by the Greenough family for about 140 years, after which it was bought by the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club. Today, much of the house is preserved as a historic attraction, serving also as a prominent event venue. There are concerts, art exhibitions, workshops, and several community events that are held here. House tours are also available. See the website for more information.
