TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
A relatively 'new' city that was left to pick up pieces of destruction in the wake of World War II, Hanover rebuilt its life on the shores of the Maschsee. Today, it stands at the brink of a new horizon, with a pronounced aura of modernity and urbanity dominating not only its skyline, but also its culture and lifestyle. Despite a loss of its architectural and historic heritage, Hanover diverts its attention to a bevy of top-notch museums that are scattered across the city, artificially built green expanses like the Herrenhäuser Gärten and the Eilenriede, and the Hanover Zoo, the fifth-oldest animal sanctuary in Germany. Hanover is titled 'Expo City', seeing as that it is home to some of the most large-scale exhibitions in the world and comprises of a colossal exhibition complex that was built for the World Expo in 2000.
