Built by the Moors on the southern banks of the Guadalquivir River, directly across from the Mezquita the Torre de la Calahorra was originally created to defend the city from invaders. Strategically placed directly in front of the Puente Romano, which for many years was the only access point to the northern banks of the river. Today the tower is the home of the Museo Vivo de al-Andalus. It is dedicated to preserving and displaying artifacts from Córdoba's complicated and fascinating past.
