Once a family estate, Shane's Castle is now one of the tourist attractions in Randalstown. Belonging to the O'Neill family, the castle was named after Shane MacBrien O'Neill in 1722. While today one can only see the remains of its past glory, at one time it was a stately mansion with a huge library, large kitchen, terraces and a stable; most of which was destroyed in a devastating fire in 1816. The park and whatever remains of the estate, however, is still well-maintained and attracts visitors from neighboring areas. It is often employed as a venue for private and corporate events.
