When it comes to contemporary performing arts, the circus has long been an influence as well as an inspiration. In the year 1874, one such circus came to the city of Amiens and was so successful that it became a permanent fixture here. First built in wood and then set in stone, Cirque Jules Verne, then called Cirque municipal d'Amiens, is now one of the city's most popular destinations for art and culture. Architect Emile Ricquier visualized and brought to life, the ornate space that still has the spirit of a circus tent. To this day, it lives on as a classic entertainment venue hosting not just circus art performances but theater, dance, and concerts as well.
