Bethpage State Park has five golf courses and Bethpage Black Course is rated as the most challenging one among them. It was inaugurated in 1936 as the brainchild of famous golf course architect A. W. Tillinghast. It is one of the most renowned golf courses in New York State and ranks among the top 10 toughest golf courses in the whole country. It also features prominently in the list of best public golf courses in the United States. This golf course has hosted tournaments like the playoffs of FedExCup in 2012, The Barclays tournament in 2009, and the 102nd United States Open Championship in 2002. Besides, its design has inspired golf simulations in top video games. It goes without saying that to play here you already need to have good skills and a degree of expertise in golfing.
