The origin of the Schloss Lichtenwalde dates back to the 13th Century however its present baroque form is from the 18th Century after the Count von Watzdorf renovated it. Often overshadowed by its splendid baroque gardens, this magnificent three-winged structure changed hands many times and was almost destroyed during the World War II. Home to the Treasury Museum now, it is divided into four zones giving glimpses of the culture and art of the Himalayas, West Africa and East Asia. The paper cutting repository (Scherenschnittmuseum) within the complex is also interesting. The Red Salon, King's Room and Castle Chapel are exemplary examples of its Baroque architecture.
