52 Church Street, Newcastle, NSW, Australia, 2300
Founded in 1847, Christ Church Cathedral is the Diocese of Newcastle. The gothic-style cathedral, designed by John Horbury Hunt, sits on top of a hill on the east side of the city. A design competition was held in 1868 to determine the cathedral's architect, yet Hunt was commissioned only after Melbourne architects Terry and Speechley miscalculated the cost of their competition-winning plan. Visitors are welcome to stop by for worship or to appreciate the architectural and historical significance of this Newcastle landmark.
