Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion

Eighteen miles east of Savannah, this landmark pier and pavilion on the backside of the barrier island offers both excellent fishing opportunities and live entertainment. Managed by the Chatham County Recreation Department, this 1996 pier replaced the one destroyed by fire in 1967. It's a popular place for dances, concerts and community events. There are public restrooms, covered picnic tables, food vendors and vending machines. For avid fishermen, some of the fish that can be caught off the pier include varieties of trout, bass, mackerel, snapper and grouper. Stop at the Tybee Island Bait & Tackle shop by the Lazaretto Creek at the Tybee Island Marina on Old Highway 80 for fishing supplies before heading to the pier. Visitors who just want to stroll the pier will get a spectacular views of the ocean, the island and shrimp boats coming and going. Free admission to the pier and parking is by meter.
