Construction of the historic Comoedienhaus Wilhelmsbad because in 1781 when Prince Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel ordered 3,500 workers to build him a theater. However, when the prince moved, the comoedienhaus fell to disrepair until the 19th Century when private investors attempted to revive the instituation. Today, the theater is maintained by the town of Hesse and puts on popular events and performances.
