With beaches, sand dunes, lagoons and lush forested areas, Marquette Park has a unique topography, and is a paradise for nature lovers. History of the park dates back to the early 20th Century, when this waterfront area was gaining popularity for its stunning natural landscapes and recreation opportunities. The park was officially established in 1918, and was then known as the Lake Front Park. There are numerous historic structures of interest at the park, prominent among which are, the Gary Bathing Beach Aquatorium and the Recreation Pavilion.
