Muiderslot is a 14th Century castle located on Herengracht. Built by the Duke of Bavaria, Albrecht, the castle overlooks the pristine waters of the Vecht river. The castle was taken over by the then popular historian and author P.C. Hooft. However, in the 18th Century the condition of the castle dilapidated and it was used as a prison. Today, the castle stands restored and is open to public; guided tours are available. It functions as a museum and offers various exhibits that transport the visitors back in the old times. It is also available as a rental venue for various functions.
