Surrounded by lavish gardens, at the heart of a shimmering moat, lies the Schloss Strünkede. This 16th-century castle was fashioned upon a splendid Baroque design, and came to be the home of the barons of Strünkede. Today, the castle is one of the three locations that make up the Emscher Valley Museum. As you stroll through the halls and corridors of Schloss Strünkede you will find yourself face to face with varied exhibits that chronicle the history of the Ruhr region. From fossils and natural history exhibits, to weaponry, ceramics, textiles and fine art, the museum's exhibits tell the tale of the region from the prehistoric to contemporary times. The castle is also home to an art gallery and a library. The halls, gardens and chapel of Schloss Strünkede sometimes host special events and wedding ceremonies as well.
