Sint Stevenskerkhof 62, Nijmegen, 6511 VZ
With roots that can be traced back to the 13th Century, Stevenskerk is a grand and majestic icon of the city of Nijmegen. Left in ruins after the city was bombed in 1944, the historic church was lovingly restored to its former glory soon after WWII. Inside, several frescoes, an elegant candelabra, the tomb of Catherine of Bourbon and an exquisite 18th-century organ have survived the ravages of war and attract visitors to the church from far and wide. Revel in the pure sound of the musical organ, marvel at the building's grand scale, and clamber to the top of the soaring tower for an unmatched view of the city. Opening hours vary, so be sure to call ahead before planning a visit. Group and guided tours are available as well. When not being used for religious services, Stevenskerk doubles up as an venue for weddings, corporate meetings, concerts and other private events.
