While Leverkusen is one of the smaller cities of the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, it is one of the major industrial hubs of the country. Situated on the eastern bank of the Rhine river, the city is most famous for being home to Bayer, one of the largest global pharmaceutical companies in the world. The glowing Bayer Cross perched atop the firm's headquarters in the city is an iconic presence. The city, founded in the 12th Century, has preserved its historical landmarks despite industrial development. The Baroque castle of Morsbroich is one among many such remarkable landmarks. Other attractions include the Japanese Gardens and the Gothic church Altenberger Dom. Bustling with cultural events, the city's vibrant charm is alluring for everyone.
