The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site is a fine example of classic countryside mansions of influential and wealthy families of the 19th Century. The splendid estate is spread over 211 acres (85 hectares) of land and comprises a stunning mansion. Featuring 54 spacious rooms, the mansion was done up drawing inspiration from the Beaux-Arts style of architecture. Designed by the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White between 1896 and 1899, the palatial structure also features an Italian garden.
