Tournai is one of the oldest cities of Belgium. In the centuries gone by, Tournai has had a significant role to play in the cultural history of the country. Tournai is home to several historical attractions. Shrine of Our Lady in Tournai is designed by Nicholas from Verdun and this enchanting reliquary dates back to the 13th Century. It is considered to be a artistic masterpiece of Belgium. Close to the shrine is the Belfry tower. Palace of Fine Arts museum of Tournai depicts art from the 15th Century and houses paintings by noted artists like R. Van der Weyden, R. Campin, Jordaens, Rubens and Brueghel.
